The Emerald green tree frog is native to Taiwan, commonly seen in the northern part of Taiwan, such as the Nanshih River and the Beishih River, and the Yilan and Shihmen Dam. Its length is about 5-7 cm, and it is the largest of the 5 green tree frogs found in Taiwan. Emerald green tree frogs have grass green colored backs, white bellies, and a yellowish-white stripe on the parts where its belly and back connect. Black stripes can be found on the sides of their body and the undersides of their hind legs, and there are golden folds of skin around their eyes, which are their most distinctive feature. |
| They breed all year long. Their peak breeding period is from September to November. The pink white foamy egg clusters can often be seen attached to bushes around the pond. When they hatch, the tadpoles will be washed into the pond by rain. The ecological destruction and pollution of their habitat has made it a rare, protected frog species in Taiwan. Scientific Name: Rhacophorus prasinatus |
