In the eastern Han period Cai Lun invented paper, paper is their for referred to as Cai paper it has not only promoted the development of china but was also a great development for world civilization. 

The earliest Chinese handicraft using paper was probably the paper cutting. It has been a popular folk art for a long time and it was from paper cutting that Professor Wang  Xiu-lan of the department of home economics in the national Taiwan normal university developed the handcraft of paper tearing.

 A new form of the traditional form of paper cutting, Paper folding is also an old handicraft it is easy to learn and requires no special tools or expensive material moreover it is safe there for it is ideal practice for children learning creative art. Recently some people have made use of thick paper to make three-dimensional shapes. This is known as paper sculpture. The great variety of shapes has made it a great variety of contemporary shapes.
