It was seventy thousand two hundred year ago that the Chinese first began to use bone needles and rope or threads. In remote ancient times, Chinese people record times by knotting rope. The original meaning of knot is to combine two ropes together in order to combine them a knot must be used. And it was said that Whang Di a legendary ruler specified that close were to be made without buttons. Instead people were to use knotted belt to hold there close together. Besides the wide use of knot in clothing knotting gradually became a decorative art. 

In the Ching dynasty the art of knotting reached its most perfect form and was widely accepted by society as an art form. But after AD 1911 when Chinese society was in the process of modernizing those traditional art forms with low practical value and was considered time consuming and difficult to perfect declined step-by-step the art of knotting was one such art. 

Ten years ago except for old people and antique collector's people were not familiar with the art of the Chinese art. It was only in 1976 that the art knotting was reintroduced systematically by the Chinese people that this once precious art form was once again known accepted and comprehensively used by the Chinese people.
