| Toward
the end of the Shanghai battle, the national army decided to
make a detour in there advance. Jin Yuan-shuai was then ordered
to guard the Si Hang warehouse that contained Japanese troops
and to cover the main detour forces.
The
warehouse comprised two six-story buildings facing the public
confession opposite Si Hang, Yangtze River.
Commander
Shang had only four hundredth soldiers to guard the warehouse.
Japanese
forces pushed forward along the Su Chow River looting everything
along the way but they were unaware of the Chinese forces at
the warehouses.
When
the Japanese move toward the warehouse they came under a surprise
attack by the Chinese soldiers.
The
Japanese later made a strong counter attack on the forces and
the fears fighting last 4 days and night.
During
a midnight battle, Girl Scout risks her life under intense gunfire
to send a four-meter long national flag to the Si Hang warehouse.
The
next morning the national flag flew on top of the warehouse
among heavy gunfire and flying Japanese flag giving Shanghai
citizens great encouragement.
Four
days later as the aim of holding up the enemy had been reached
the national forces accepted a cease-fire mitigated by British
troops.
When
Commander Xie first moved to the warehouse the British troop
asked him how many troops he had.
In
order to giver a stronger impression Xie answered with eight
hundred people while he had actually had only four hundredth
troops.
The
story later spread all over the public confession and everybody
knew about the gallantly of the eight hundredth warriors who
defended the Si Hang warehouse to the very last.
