| Wun Ruian Born and raised
in Malaysia in 1954 Wun Ruian has several pennames, such as Wun Liangyu, and Shu Siawu.
His family came from Meixian County of Guangdong Province in China. He started writing
when he was in elementary school. In his junior high-school years he had created magazines
and won debate contests.
His works were released in Taiwan and Hong Kong since the
time he studied in a multi-cultural senior high where he met his future comrade Fang
Erjhen in 1972. In 1973 he formed a poets' association, Tianlang Shihshe, and at the end
of that year he came to Taiwan to continue studying. In order to raise money for poets'
association he started writing wusia novels such as Sihda Mingbu Hui Jingshih. He had
another poets association, Shenjhou Shihshe, from 1976 to 1980, but at the end of 1980 he
and Fang Erjhen were deported from Taiwan the by the Taiwanese government for some
political reasons.
He and Fang arrived in Hong Kong in 1981. He wrote the
wusia series Shienjhou Cisia and Cyuehe Che for newspapers, and published his books. In
1983 he gained residency in Hong Kong and worked as a manager for the TV company, ATV. His
books were published in both Hong Kong and Taiwan, and his books were turned into movies.
His most productive period was from 1985 to 1986. Including
columns and series together, there were 18 Chinese newspapers, which printed his works
around the world. He established a new style of writing. His novel, Shaleni Haoma, was
published in Taiwan in 1987 and some of his earlier works such as Sihda Mingbu Hui
Jingshih were published in Mainland China. From 1988 to 1989, he published a knight-errant
story weekly Wun Ruian Wusia. And then he moved to China to promote his works for the past
decade.
When he wrote his earlier works such as Sihda Mingbu Hui
Jingshih, Shienjhou Cisia and Cyuehe Che, he was influenced by the important books of Gu
Long. He started using poetic descriptions in 1982, and he proclaimed he has been
employing a new writing style to write his new books since 1987. Whether readers
appreciate his new style or not, he has introduced a distinct way to write wusia novels. |
