Anyone who refused to attend the feast would be killed the same as his fellows. And to those who accepted the invitation, no one had ever come back. Gou Zajhong agreed to participate, and after he arrived at the island he realized that the Master of the island collected reports concerning the martial arts circle. The ones who were massacred were punished because of their wrong doings and the ones who came to the island were rewarded with very difficult and precious wugong recorded in a book. They devoted themselves too much to figuring out the wugong, so they refused to go home. Gou Zajhong finally solved the secret and the Master of the island destroyed the wugong book himself. So everyone went back home.

The author employed multiple story lines in this story as he did in other books. Love, hatred, and revenge esisted for two or three generations. The secret wugong book was another device which confused many martial arts masters but not Gou Zajhong, who was illiteracy, simple minded, and straight-forward. Did Jin Yong highly regard Gou Zajhong's character, or he was simply teasing his fans.
