It started with a maid of the Yihua Palace, running away with her boy friend Jiang Fong. During the time they were at large, the maid gave birth to a twin brothers. When they were finally caught and killed, the Yihua Palace brought back one of the twin brothers and the other was rescued by Jiang Fong's best friend Yan Nantian.

      When Yan Nantian was chasing Jiang Fong's servant Jiang Cin, the conspirator who informed Yihua Palace to catch his boss, Yan was trapped in the evil valley, Eren Gu. Yan not only lost his wugong but his consciousness, then the infant he carried was raised by residents of the valley, the ten notorious evil ones Shihda Eren; they named the baby Siao Yuer. The other infant growing up in the Palace was called Hua Wucyue. Wucyue was well educated and became a knowledgeable young man with good wugong. Although Siao Yuer was taught by the ten evil ones he had a good heart and when he left the valley he made good friends with many young people including Tie Sinlan, Jiang Yulang and his brother Hua Wucyue. The twin brothers did not know their relationship, only the Mistress sisters of Yihua Palace knew.

      Trapped in the evil valley, Yan NanTian with the help of Magic Doctor Wan Shenyi, recovered and learned a more powerful wugong Jiayi Shengong. When he left the valley it was already twenty years after the death of Jiang Fong, and Mistress Yaoyue also learned the excellent Mingyue Shengong. Yan and Yaoyue were going to start a decisive battle and they commanded the younger generations to fight first. Yan would stop it if he had known Hua Wucyue was the other son of his dead friend. Mistress Yaoyue's sister Liansing tried to stop the tragedy by telling the truth, but was soon killed by her sister. When the twins fought Siao Yuer who took a drug given by Magic Doctor before hand pretended to be killed so neither he nor his brother was hurt. When he and his brother celebrated the reunion, the Mistress Yaoyue committed suicide.

      Despite the fact that this story is long, it is tightly written. It shows Gu Long's neat style and never gets boring. The "twin brothers" motif emphasizing the similarities and differences between two major roles of a story was adopted again in Gu Long's other novels such as Duocing Jianke Wucing Jian. So, Gu Long the master storyteller with the intention of combining fighting scenes, suspenseful plots, neat descriptions, elegant phrases and psychological analysis elevates the knight-errant genre into literature.
