Chu Liusiang Chuanci

Chu Liusiang is the protagonist of this story, which contains three adventures, 'Syuehai Piaosiang' literally meaning 'The Fragrance from the Blood Spitting Sea;' 'Da Shamo,' 'The Huge Desert;' 'Huamei Niao,' 'The Thrush.' Chu Liusiang is also the main character in the author Gu Long's other sequel books, such as Bianfu Chuanci (A Story of the Bed), Taohua Chuanci (A Story of the Peach Blossom.)

Chu Liusiang enjoys traveling around so he lived on a boat. One day he found that the corpses of martial arts masters were floating on the sea. Later on he was accused of stealing the magic poison water Tianyi Shenshui from the Shenshui Palace. He could no longer lead the easy life then, so he had to investigate the whole issue. He found out that the murderer of the masters was Nangong Ling, head of the Gaibang gang. He killed them and robbed their money. He also committed the murder of his predecessor by poisoning him with the Tianyi Shenshui. He refused to tell Chu Liusiang who the chief plotter was until he accidentally drank wine contaminated with Tianyi Shenshui. Before he died he told the truth that his elder brother, the monk Wu Hua, was the principal conspirator. Wu Hua before long also committed suicide, because he refused to go to court when he was defeated by Chu Liusiang.

The second story took place on a desert. Chu Liusiang's three female friends were kidnapped, so Chu tracked them. He came across two old friends Hu Tiehua and Ji Bingyan, and they accompanied him on this mission until they arrived at the desert. They were all caught by the malicious wugong mistress, Shih Guanyin. With the help of 'the thrush', they regained their freedom and also rescued the three girls. Shih Guanyin was wounded when she fought with Chu Liusiang, and she ended her own life eventually.

The third episode is about 'the thrush'; her real name is Liu Wumei. She was Shih Guanyin's ex-subordinate, and Shih used a drug to control her. The antidote was in Shenshui Palace and the Mistress of the Palace asked her to get Chu Liusiang's head to exchange for the antidote. Although she rescued Chu and his friends in the previous episode, she was determined to kill Chu to rescue herself. She invited Chu to her home, which was a huge mansion because her husband, Li Yuhan, was the son of a prominent family. She could not defeat Chu, so she told the truth. Chu, then, went with his friend Hu Tiehua, and raided the Shenshui Palace. Although they were too strong for the disciples of the Palace, the Mistress, Shuimu Yinji gave them a hard time. Chu fought with her on the land and then in the water. Shuimu knew Chu was dying, because her wugong was better than his. However, Chu's secret weapon was that he had leaned a kind of wugong, which helped him to get oxygen through his skin, so finally Shuimu was defeated. When Chu finally got the antidote and returned to 'the thrush', she was already dead and her husband had gone mad.

These stories mix wusia with the detective story. It shows the novelist's ambition to work from two angles.
