Shuangfong Ci

Literally the title 'Shuangfong Ci' means 'Two Fong Birds Flags.' This is one of the novelist Wolong Sheng's best novels. Although this story is about the adventure of a young man called Rongge, the main characters of this novel are a group of intelligent martial arts mistresses. In the male-dominated wusia stories, this story is different and very entertaining.

Rongge was given an assignment to help Wang Zihfang to catch some thieves, who stole the goods escorted and transported by Wang's private escorting business, biaojyu. The beautiful courtesan Shui Yingying suggested that they to go to the mysterious Wangshangmen gang to get back the goods.

Then the story turns to Shui Yingying. It was not her wish to be a prostitute; she came from the prominent Jiang family and was a member of the righteous Jingfongmen organization. However she suffered a mental disorder and then was controlled by Wuji Laoren. In order to help her, her maid Hongsing asked Rongge to visit and ask the adopted daughter of Wuji Laoren, Yang Jiumei, to rescue Sui Yingying. Yang Jiumei did so, then when Shui Yingying recovered, she felt embarrassed and ran away. Rongge carried the letter, which Yingying wrote to her mother, to Yingying's home located in the Jinfong Valley. Rongge received a great reception and was given a precious sword. However he also saw Yingying's elder sister Jiang Yansia, who was not very healthy but was very clever.

Rongge had to leave the valley to continue his mission to find the stolen goods. He did meet the head of the mysterious Wangshangmen gang, but he could not get any information from the men. Then he disguised himself by pretending to be the servant of Yang Jiumei. By doing so Rongge had opportunities to follow the powerful Wuji Laoren and his subordinates to get an easy passage to the head of the Wangshangmen gang again. He was right and the two heads of the gangs did meet. However he also realized that these two lords were both females, and they had both been in love with the same man before.

The real identity of Wuji Laoren was Bai Niangzih. She also pretended to be the gang chief, Yitian Jyunjhu, after Yitian Jyunjhu died. She used drugs to control Yitian's followers, and she also commanded the followers to poison members of martial arts circle, because she wanted to control the circle. She planned to hold a gathering, to which those she poisoned would come, and she would nominate herself to be the leader of the martial arts circle.

Rongge ran back home and told his mother what he had just found out, before the meeting started. His mother encouraged him and other members of the martial arts circle to stop Bai Niangzih and the meeting.

It was Shui Yingying and her elder sister who made the most efforts to stop Bai Niangzih, and they also realized that Wang Zihfang, who claimed to loose the goods at the beginning, was the real boss of Bai Niangzih.

During the process of stopping Bai, the two sisters suffered and became handicapped. Because they saved the martial arts circle, they were given the Fong Bird Flags as a symbol of the greatest honor in the martial arts circle.
