Jianhai Yingyang

Published in 1967, this book is one of Sihma Ling's famous works, a typical young master getting revenge for his family and winning over beauties. It is also a combination of spiritual powers, martial arts theories and remarkable battles of wit. Considering it infused traditional knight-errant wusia novels with new ideals and deeply explored the human mind, it is as influential as the novels by Jin Yong. It also inspired the upcoming novelist Gu Long and the latest brilliant Huang Yi.

Two sides of the martial arts circle, baidao "the white side" or the righteous side, and heidao "the black" or the devious side come to fight. The leading baidao organization was Cuihua Cheng, and Wuwei Shanjhuang led the heidao. The book starts with the defeat of Cuihua Cheng on a moonless windy night. Although it had more than a hundred years of remarkable history, it could not stand against the ambitious director of Wuwei Shanjhuang, Yan Wuwei and his followers. After this successful invasion, Wuwei Shanjhuang was too strong to have any enemies in the martial arts circle.

The young heir of Cuihua Cheng, Luo Tingyu, was determined to take revenge. He fled to an isolated island and earnestly studied his family wugong Syuejhan Daofa. Then he found out the highest knowledge of fencing, daodao. Everyone who saw him admitted that he was the rebirth of the legendary Dao Jyun, Sword King. The martial circle also believed that Jian Hou, Fencing Queen, would appear soon.

At the same time a young girl named Cin Shuangpo arrived in the Central Plains from the Taoist convent Tingchao Ge where her teachers advised her to do research for the highest level of fencing tao in the mundane world. Tingchao Ge was located on the Putuo Island and had not been involved with the martial arts circle for about two hundred years; it was regarded as the wugong Mecca, and the wugong masters believed that once its goddess-like disciple appeared she would be the Jian Hou.

Both Cuihua Cheng and Wuwei Shanjhuang wanted to win over Cin, and she was impressed by Luo Tingyu. However she already devoted her life to studying fencing tao and Luo was her top competitor. In addition she has to maintain her spiritual purity in order to reach the highest level of the fencing tao. To fall in love or to continue studying, Cin was in a dilemma.

The infamous Yan Wuwei of Wuwei Shanjhuang had equipped his last student Zong Syuan with best wugong he knew and Confucian teachings. He also secretly made Zong to become a member of baidao in order to gain the heart of Jien Hou. Zong was a clever young man and had learned all the evil tricks from his master teacher. He also knew his teacher's wrong doings, so mentally he fought against his teacher every now and then.

The novelist created another important girl Duanmu Fu. She was extremely wise and knew how to lead. She joined Wuwei Shanjhuang to find the murderer of her family. Together with other intelligent young masters and mistresses she plotted her revenge against the evil power.
