Sihda Mingbu Hui Jingshih

This novel is composed of five different stories. Apart form the fifth, each story is about an excellent head constable who solves crimes and in the fifth story they worked together to crack down on a thirteen-member gang that had committed several notorious murders.

The first story takes place in a birthday party which the head constable, Leng Sie, attended. The host of this party, Jin Shenghuang, was brutally murdered, and then there were four more victims who were all Jin's closest friends. In addition to Leng Sie there was another constable, Liu, at the birthday party, and when Jin was killed there were two constables arriving to investigate this case. Finally, Leng Sie found that the murderers were Liu and the other constables, because Jin had defeated their master decades ago and they decided to avenge their master on Jin's birthday.

The head constable, Jhui Ming, together with many martial arts masters visited a haunted villa; the residents of the villa had been massacred a few years before and the case was still unsolved. With the exception of Jhui Ming, who was pursing criminals, they all looked for treasure and a precious wugong book. On the way to the villa, they were ambushed and then trapped in this labyrinth villa. Before long they realized that the sinister master of the villa was still alive and they were becoming his victims.

Tie Shou was the protagonist of the third story. He with other constables chased the infamous escapee Chu Siangyu. They were interrupted by a gang. They defeated the gang and so could keep chasing Chu. They seized him in a lodge but he ran away again. Finally they killed him in a violent battle.

A story of an outstanding head constable, Wu Cing, was the forth one. Although he had lost his legs, he was very good in employing concealed weapon and he jumped as if flying. Sitting in his multi-function sedan chair he subsequently defeated many clever martial arts masters and avenged himself. Finally he executed an undercover evil lady.

The four excellent head constables met in the last story. They were requested by their master teacher to investigate serial murder cases by a gang in the capital city. This gang had even tried to assassinate the emperor several times. Wu Cing killed one of the gang members in the fourth story and still there were twelve at large. After some fatiguing fights the head constables executed all the muggers of the gang. But still the one who commanded this gang was not apprehended.

Head constables' stories like this one are regarded as Wun Ruian's most successful works. Their episodes are suspenseful and unpredictable, such as the best head constable was the "disabled" Wu Cing, literally ruthless, who could execute criminals by sitting in his sedan chair. Constables with excellent martial arts took justice into their own hands and punished the evil ones. In addition, the evilest ones always pretended to be good, and this situation can also be found in the books written by Gu Long.
