DaTang Shuanglong Jhuan

At the end of the Sui Dynasty, China was in chaos. Warlords fought one another in order to expand their territories. Two groups, Momen Yincyue Liupai and Fomen Cihang Jingjhai, fought in the martial arts circle for the leadership. Foreign tribes such as the northern Turks, the Koguryo, and the tribes from central Asia also wanted to find benefit in China. Two men Kou Jhong and Syu Zihling emerged at this period.

Kou and Syu were two clever street kids living as pickpockets in Yangjhou. Local people despised and maltreated them, but they vowed to be successful one day. By chance they gained a precious Taoist martial arts book Changsheng Jyue, so they were chased by the Warlord, Yuwun Huaji. A Korean girl Fu Jyunjhuo rescued them, but she was severely injured. Before she died she disclosed the secret of the legendary treasure of Yanggong to them. Consequently they had more troubles because they knew the secret. However they were able to defend themselves because they were smart, and they had learned the powerful wugong of Changsheng Jyue. Even the influential regional Warlords Du Fuwei and Li Mi couldn't threaten them.

The wugong they learned changed their personalities, Kou became out going, Syu more introverted. Initially they merely planned to take revenge for the Korean girl, but when they realized how the ordinary people suffered under the circumstance of the warlords, they decided to join the civil war to help the people. As a result, they not only became the enemies of the warlords but also were wanted by the two biggest groups in the martial arts circle, Momen Yincyue and Fomen Cihang Jingjhai, the latter supporting Li Shihmin. Battles helped them to grow, and they learned many fighting strategies. They eventually entered Changan, the capital, and gained the treasure of Yanggong and defeated Yuwun Huaji to take revenge for Fu Jyunjhuo. Instead of relocating they retreated to outside of the northern boundary where they helped their friends to defeat the Turkish troops led by Jieli.

The Li Family led by Li Shihmin grew rapidly and threatened Syu and Kou's troops Shaoshuai Jyun located in Loyang. So Kou left the north for the Central Plains to help the troops, and Syu reluctantly followed Kou and also moved back to China. They were attacked by both the martial arts circle and Li Shihmin, and they lost Loyang. Their remaining troops were pursued by Li. Syu was also attacked by a martial arts master of Mojiao, and he was loosing his wugong.

With a few historical figures, the major events taking place in this long story were forged. But in order to make the historic background look real, the author did much deep research work into various areas such as the religion, the customs, and the foreign tribes. The author's philosophical consciousness was demonstrated in the development of the protagonists who were deliberately made to contrast with the winner of the civil war Li Shihmin, and their friendship was described in detail. This story took many years to complete; it is highly suspenseful and shows the writer's humanity.
