The Royal Sword (Syuanyuan Jian)¢º

In the series of locally produced works, 'The Royal Sword, Syuanyuan Jian¢º' was an important work launched in Feb. 1994. A magazine article evaluates it by saying:

The episodes are suspenseful, neither the righteous is always what he is nor is the evil....The fact that the righteous Hujhong Sian turns out to be the head of the evil, Da Mowang will amaze the players. Although the device, Lianbao Hu, is not a new invention, yet combining it with different monsters together is so interesting that it will distract the players from feeling sleepy and hungry. The modeling of monsters after Shanhai Jing and the using of Chinese painting and drawing style has gained this game a good reputation. In other words, it was a wonderful game at that time.

Six months later, the Softstar company produced the games 'Yaumo Dao.' Compared to 'The Royal Sword ¢º,' this game did not have many new inventions. However the next game, a sequel of 'The Royal Sword' called 'Syuanyuan Jian Waijhuan Jhih Fongjhihwu' combing the knight-errant theme led Softstar to open up a new field. It not only established the status of the 'The Royal Sword' series, but also can be regarded as the forerunner of the classical tragic wusia work, 'Sianjian Cisia Jhuan.'
