With the screenplay by I Kuang (Ni Kuang) and under the direction of Chu Yuan, the movie is based upon the wusia novel of the same title by Gu Long. Apart from the excellence of the original story and advanced studio techniques, this movie has a remarkable list of entertainers, such as Yue Hua, Jing Li, Ling Yun, Lou Lie and Zong Hua. This movie can be regarded as the representative work of the series of similar wusia movies directed by Chu Yuan.

      It starts with a series of battles occurring between two rival gangs, then a violent internal power struggle breaks out in a highly organized gang. This movie investigates the dark side of human nature as well as the contrast between the righteous and the evil. Liusing, the meteor, is the nickname of a killer (played by Zong Hua). As a legendary person, his whereabouts is always of unknown. Although he is worshiped whenever he executes a 'big' name in the martial arts circle, his life is always in danger; like a meteor it shines in the sky and disappears rapidly. Hudie, the butterfly, (played by Jing Li), is a passionate beautiful lady with a warm heart. She symbolizes the merits of humanity. Jian, the sword, stands for the conflicts caused by fighting for gaining power. It vividly depicts the various situations concerning the characters' greed for power, which reflects the different sides of human nature.

      The episodes are suspenseful; in addition to that, the director deliberately creates the characteristics of each role as well as the hunting atmosphere. The luxuriant studio effects and the costumes artistically increase the romantic impression. It is a good first example as it begins the series of movies combing Chu Yuan and Gu Long.
