Adam Cheng,
Jheng Shaociu Adam Cheng, a Cantonese, also
known by his Chinese name Jheng Shaociu, was born in an academic family in 1947. His
father was a professor in the Chung Chi College of Hong Kong University, yet his
background did not attract him to find a job in the academic area. He loved the performing
arts ever since he was a kid. In 1963 he passed the entrance examinations and was able to
enroll in three acting training schools at the same time. The certificates he got from the
acting schools helped him to gain opportunities to play supporting roles in more than
twenty films. Although the roles he played were inferior, he still gained good
experiences, which helped him in his later acting career.
Financial difficulties drove him to enter show business.
His voice was euphonic and his posture was elegant, so he got the opportunity to host TV
programs. In 1984 he held a public singing performance.
The peak of his acting career arrived in April 1982, when
the series, Chu Liusiang, in which he played the main role became a big hit in Taiwan.
This program not only broke the TV Rating records but also affected the whole
entertainment circle in Taiwan. His elegant characteristics amazed the Taiwanese audience,
and he became their idol.
The movies he played in include 'Fongliu Canjian Yunwuhen,'
'Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain, Sin Shushan Jiansia,' 'Shaolin and Wu Tang, Shaolin
Wudang' and 'Hongfen Gange.' As a versatile actor he played in many series in Hong Kong
and Taiwan in the leading role. |
