Emei The Emei School comes from Mt. Emei in Sichuan
Province. It is a martial arts sect combining the kung fu of Shaolin School and those of
local fighting skills. In the Ming Dynasty, the School of Emei had its own forms of
martial arts, such as the Emei Ciangfa, the ciang spear form by the monk Pu En; the
Baimeicyuan, the boxing form by the Taoist priest Baimei; and the Yasingchuan boxing form
by the Taoist priest, Lyu Ya.
There are also contradictory stories about the birth of the School of Emei. One of the
stories says that this School is the combination of the various martial arts sects such as
Huanglinpai, Yumencyuan and Baimeichuan. Another story points out the eight popular
martial arts sects including the Ceng, Yue, Du, Jhao, Hong, Hua, Zih, Hui plus the five
sects Huanglin, Diancang, Tiefu, Chingcheng and Chingniu formed the Emei School.
The Emei School in novels is deeply affected by the famous novelist, Huanjhu Loujhu.
Members in this school can hide the flying knife in their mouth and can fly. They are
half-human and half-god. Lately the stories about the Emei School have come down to the
earth, and it is divided into the two sects Emei and Chingcheng, and they are both famous
for their strange sword forms. |
