Folk Culture Village

Kinmen Folk Culture Village is located in Shanhou village, and consists of eighteen buildings built in the Southern Fujian style, arranged in three rows following the lie of the mountain terrain.

In 1975, in an effort to preserve historically and culturally important artifacts, a Kinmen commission made the decision to create the culture village using these buildings. Seventeen unoccupied structures were chosen and converted into, among other things, a Folk Cultural Arts Centre, a Centre of Ceremonies, a Martial Arts Centre, and a Leisure Centre.

The old homesteads of the Folk Culture Village, with their robust walls and swallow-tail style roofs, the beautiful workmanship invested in their carvings, and the liveliness brought to the whole effect with reds, blacks, and golds, all retain their grandeur despite the passage of time.
