|The residence of Li
This is the former residence of Li Guang-sian, a military officer of the highest rank, and
his brothers Li Guang-hui (former commander of Taiwan's Anping garrison) and Li Guang-kuan.
They had it built in the reign of the Cianlong emperor of the Cing dynasty (reigned
1735-96). As Li was the governor of the province his residence was also given the name
Tiduya, meaning 'Office of the Governor'.
Although Li Guang-sian
was a high-ranking officer in the military, he was also a very honest and humble man, and
so his official residence was not so different from that of the general populace. The high
ceilings, swallow-tail style roofs and simple decoration all reflect the architectural
style of the Cianlong period.
