The Congcing Studio
was originally the place in which Syu Sie (a scholar official of the Wanli reign period
(1573- 1620)) pursued his studies. Syu was generally regarded as a genius in his time who
won the first place in the local round of the prestigious civil service examinations.
Syu Syieh would press
himself forward with the maxim, "To obtain the highest rank in the empire is inferior
to achieving the most that one can in one's career; Yet even this is inferior to one's
being of the highest moral character in the world". From this, one can easily imagine
how upright and sincere Syu was. It was a great tragedy, then, when he died of an illness
at the early age of 37.
The building was used as
a government office in the Cing dynasty, and it is now used as an office building for the
county police and other agencies.
